Academic Work

Throughout my journey working towards a Master's degree, I  had opportunities to work on several different projects and papers. Over time I like to think it has improved, but it is all here. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions please feel free to reach out. I would love to continue to develop my writing and to learn more in these areas.

Creative Component - Self Care for Highly Involved Students

I was given the incredible opportunity to develop lesson plans and a program specifically for highly involved students and bettering their own self care. This idea came to be while working with highly involved students and seeing how their needs differed from the average student. This was my capstone project in my Master's program and has had recent revisions.

Residence Halls Association Event Assessment

Through both the Assessment course within my graduate work and my graduate assistantship within Housing and Residential Life I worked to create an assessment for the Residence Halls Association's signature events. The assessment plans for all three events are included; however data from the project itself is also included for the signature event "Q & Gay" hosted Fall 2018.

Critical Issues with Campus Safety - Residence Halls

With a focus on facilities, fire safety, and general student safety within the residence halls; this paper addresses issues from both sides. Safety is a key focus within Housing and Residence Life on a college campus and the safety needs of students are consistent. In the Critical Issues within Higher Education course I was challenged to look at different perspectives and to research a passion area of mine. As someone who works currently in Residence Life this is an issue I constantly see and considering what various options are is important to work towards staying up-to-date.

Sleeping Patterns for Higher Achieving Students

Below is a research proposal created in the Research and Methodology course that I took in graduate school. It focuses on the amount of sleep higher achieving students receive per night while still remaining high achieving in a holistic way (through their academics and extracurricular activities) in comparison to lower achieving students.

First Generation College Students of Low Socioeconomic Status

Below is one of the first papers I wrote within my graduate career. I learned a lot from the class, the research and related articles, as well as from students that fall within this community.

Leadership Studies Project

In a group project for Leadership Studies in Higher Education we created a "pretend" institution and institutional structure based on surrounding institutions and general location culture.

Student Development Theory Presentation Assignment

In Student Development Theory at Oklahoma State University we were assigned to create a detailed presentation following a prompt with specific theories. The idea was to be professional and through the project we were also assigned job titles and a "pretend" institution to create a relevant scenario that would require the presentations. Below is Step 1 or the two step project, with Step 2 following behind.

Next was Step 2, where we were assigned new job titles, a new "pretend" institution, and asked to make the presentations more engaging. While all of the content was written and spoken, significantly less was put on the slides in order to keep the attention of the attendees. (I do have a cited sources page for the images and can post/send it upon request).

First Personal Philosophy

One of the first assignments given to me was to write a personal philosophy for an introduction to student affairs class. As someone so new to the field, and only a graduate assistant, it took a lot of thought to put together a philosophy. While I have learned, changed, and continued to build on my own philosophy, it is interesting to go back and see where it began.

NASPA/ACPA Student Affairs (2010) Competency Assessment

As my journey to a Master’s in College Student Development at Oklahoma State University starts coming to a close, I sat down to consider where I am on the NASPA & ACPA (2010) competencies for student affairs professionals. Using Jerrid Freeman’s (Vice President for Student Affairs - Northeastern State University) Professional Competencies Self-Assessment & Development Plan. If you would also like to use this resource, please click on the link below! For my own evaluation I have shared the document below as well. I have also included a quick reference chart as a glimpse to what I hope comes across in the completed development plan.
