26 may seem like a weird age to have a “bucket list by” type of post, but as someone about to turn 25 I wanted to set reasonable, attainable, and timely goals; “SMART” goals if you will. My golden birthday is going to be my 26th birthday, so I thought now would be a great time to really think about what goals I have for the next 13 months. So here is my 26 by 26 list:

  1. Travel to the North-west coast of the United States (it is the last corner I’m missing)
  2. Visit my friends from graduate school in their new locations (Arizona, Minnesota, Indiana, and Iowa)
  3. Go to a women’s soccer game
  4. Get into an actual gym regimine
  5. Go to Hawaii and see my friends there
  6. Train my dog to run a mile
  7. Go real person camping (like in a tent in the woods)
  8. Go on a hike nearby
  9. Visit the Pioneer Woman shop
  10. Read at least 12 new books
  11. Run a 5K
  12. Save up some money (maybe to use to go to Hawaii)
  13. Invest in something financially
  14. Read up on and vote intentionally at the local elections
  15. Finish the family cookbook I’ve been working on
  16. Write a new research proposal
  17. Attend a professional development conference
  18. Have a picnic in the park by my house
  19. Go to a pumpkin patch
  20. Surprise my husband with a clean apartment (he is the natural cleaner between the two of us)
  21. Try a new workout class
  22. Try a local art class
  23. Spend a night in Tulsa
  24. Go to a music festival
  25. Keep up with Bachelor in Paradise/The Bachelor/The Bachelorette (my latest guilty pleasure)
  26. Dress my orange cat up with a fake lion's mane

You may start to notice that some of these overlap with my “summer goals” list, and that is ok. I did accomplish some of my summer goals, but I think giving myself a little over a year may make them more attainable. I’m also going to try to make posts as I accomplish different ones about them to hold myself accountable. What are the things you would add if you were making your own bucket list?

I am now approaching the age of twenty six, and I still do not know what I want to do with my life. I have been working some odd jobs lately, however, nothing has really made me want to stay. I know that I have talent inside me, but I do not know what it is. I want to find my purpose in life, but I just cannot seem to find it. I am so anxious about the future of my life.

hello! You absolutely do have talents inside you and it is really admirable that you are still open to looking for your "calling" in a sense. I have found some career pat/aptitude tests that could be helpful:

But at the end of the day what really matters is are you able to provide for yourself and does it make you happy? It can be hard to find where we feel like we "fit in" with the world or where we are vs. where we want to be in a timeline we create for ourselves. I hope you are able to find what you enjoy at your own pace on your own timeline. I've had a lot of friends older than me recently tell me that there will never be a point that we have it all figured out. That we will always be playing it by ear, and that it is ok to not always know exactly where our future is headed.
